Through the use of paint and saturated colors, Andrea Sauchelli expresses an edge, energy, and urgency, as she attunes to the subtle sensory experiences while reconnecting with nature. Sauchelli is inspired by the shallow wetlands and thick dense forests of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, which is susceptible to ongoing destruction of its natural resources despite being a protected national reserve. Through her work she recognizes these critical habitats, distinctive features, and the deep, layered cultural history within Pine Barrens ecology. Her work forges ideas of human/nature relationships, reverence, and emotional connections through shared sensory experiences.
Sauchelli held a solo show at Perkins Center for the Arts; These Woods Are True, The Noyes Arts Garage; Transitions; Earth and Concrete, selected for an Invitational at Stockton University Art Gallery; A Pinelands Portrait. Two person shows include DC Gallery and Studio; Within View, Gallery 50; Sticks and Stones, and a group show at The Bridgette Mayer Gallery, The Arts and Innovation Center at Rowan College, among others. The artist’s works are included in the permanent collection of the Noyes Museum of Art and in many of AtlantiCare’s hospital institutions as part of their Healing Arts Program. Sauchelli was a recent participating artist for Our Newark Futures as part of the Clement A. Price Institute and has participated in art interviews for local publications in Ocean County. Sauchelli holds a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY.
